Labor Day weekend is a great excuse to get out and explore Edmond, Arcadia and one of Oklahoma's most famous stretches of Route 66.

This year is especially fun because Route 66 is celebrating its centennial in 2026, and the Edmond–Arcadia area gives families plenty of ways to experience it.

Here are five Labor Day weekend ideas for September 4–7.

1. Go to the 41st Annual Arcadia Festival & Rodeo

This is the big one.

The 41st Annual Arcadia Festival & Rodeo takes place Friday and Saturday, September 4–5.

Friday includes a Rhythm & Blues Night Festival at Arcadia Municipal Park beginning at 7 PM, followed by a youth street dance downtown.

Saturday brings vendors, a 3 PM parade and the rodeo beginning at 8 PM.

If you're looking for something that actually feels like an Oklahoma Labor Day weekend, this should be near the top of your list.

2. Spend a Day at Arcadia Lake

Want to keep things simple?

Head to Arcadia Lake.

The Edmond lake offers camping, picnicking, boating, swimming, water sports, hiking, biking, disc golf and fishing.

If you're taking a boat out, check the lake's current watercraft count before loading up; Arcadia Lake publishes a live count because the number of watercraft allowed in each park is limited.

Pack food, get outside and make a day of it.

3. Walk or Bike the Route 66 Trail

For something active but less complicated than a full lake day, try the Arcadia Lake Route 66 Trail.

The paved trail runs about three miles and is designed for walking, running, cycling and strolling, with multiple access points around Arcadia Lake.

An early morning Labor Day walk before Oklahoma heats up sounds pretty good to us.

4. Make a Route 66 Stop at Pops

If you're going anywhere near Arcadia, this is an easy add-on.

Pops 66 is famous for its enormous 66-foot soda bottle and hundreds of soda flavors.

Visit Edmond lists Pops as open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch, dinner and—of course—picking out a ridiculous amount of soda.

Let everyone choose something they've never tried.

The soda selection may become the main event.

5. Visit the Arcadia Round Barn

Round out the Route 66 portion of the weekend with one of the area's most recognizable historic landmarks.

The Arcadia Round Barn sits along historic Route 66 and remains one of the signature attractions on Visit Edmond's Route 66 route.

Pair it with Pops and you have an easy mini Route 66 road trip without spending the entire day in the car.
